The mission of Yokefellow Ministry is to assist others in times of need or crisis. Our main purpose is to help eliminate hunger and food insecurity in our community. Assistance is provided with food, prescription medicine, and utilities. The amount of assistance given depends on available resources to the food pantry.
Yokefellow was organized on May 24, 1972 by a group of concerned ministers and lay people. These people had a desire to provide emergency assistance to the families of Surry County. Since 1972, Yokefellow has touched the lives of thousands of individuals and families in crisis situations through its food banks.
The logo of Yokefellow speaks of a frame of wood by which two animals were joined together to share the load of a plow or cart. In Matthew's gospel, Jesus said, "Take my yoke upon you.." Here Jesus was using the yoke as a symbol of service first to Him and second to others. "Together" is a key word for those who serve at Yokefellow and together we can meet the needs of those in crisis.
Yokefellow provides food, assistance with prescription medication, and assistance with utilities, including electricity and water. Yokefellow also assists with information and referral services to available community resources and food banks . Assistance is available for the greater Mount Airy area.
Yokefellow is primarily a volunteer organization with one part-time paid staff person. Volunteers willingly and freely give their time and talents to see that Yokefellow meets its objective. You can be a vital part of the ministry at Yokefellow.
Yokefellow's desire is to involve you and your church, organization, or business.
Your help is critical in helping Yokefellow meet the needs of our community. If you or your organization would like to speak with a representative of Yokefellow Ministry or make a contribution, please contact Dixie Ratliff, Program Coordinator at 336-789-5838.
